Chinese New Year in Shanghai is loud, chaotic, beautiful, bright, exhilarating and red. Fireworks and firecrackers can be seen and heard in neighbourhoods and street corners. The city ignites, howls and cackles. We will show you Chinese New Year as the locals do. Experience the festivities that family and friends encounter during this national holiday. Before and after New Year the streets are alive with festivals and cultural activities, we will seek these out and aim to visit dragon lantern dancing and temple fairs, that are held in the cities we visit.

Tour Itinerary
Days 1-2: Australia to Beijing
Fly overnight to Beijing for a two night stay.

Day 3: Beijing – Great Wall & Summer Palace
Walk on the Great Wall to appreciate 2,000 years of history and admire the panoramic views. We also tour the exquisite Summer Palace. Our evening meal includes the local delicacy, Peking Duck.

Day 4: Beijing to Xian – Tiananmen Square & Forbidden City
Sightseeing today includes a stroll through Tiananmen Square, past Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum to the treasure-filled Forbidden City, which is the largest and best preserved collection of ancient buildings in China from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Fly to the former ancient capital of Xian.

Day 5: Xian to Shanghai & Terracotta Warriors
Visit one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century, the Terracotta Warriors and Horses. Later, fly to the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai.

Day 6: Shanghai for New Year’s Eve
Spend the day exploring Shanghai and experiencing the festive Chinese New Year spirit. In the evening join Wendy to celebrate the occasion with dinner, music and dancing. Board our exclusive Dragon Boat cruise past a welcoming committee of costumed dancers and drummers, and cruise the Huangpu River with night-time vistas of the historic Bund and futuristic Pudong.

Day 7: Shanghai
Visit the beautiful Yu Gardens and the Old Town as well as a visit to see the superb antiquities and fine arts of the Shanghai Museum. We also walk along the famous Bund with its colonial architecture.

Day 8: Shanghai to Australia
This morning is free at your leisure before you are transferred to Shanghai airport to board your overnight flight to Australia.

Day 9 : Arrive Australia
Arrive home today.
